Your weekly newsletter + love note from me!
How do you move through your yoga practice?
Dearest community,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter — a space where we explore yoga, womanhood, or whatever else has been on my mind. I always try to share what feels most alive in me… because we’re all connected, after all.
You're here because you’ve joined an event with me or downloaded something that added you to this community. If you ever don’t want to receive these emails anymore, no hard feels — just unsubscribe.
But if you do stay, this is the best place to hear about my current offerings, events, and thoughts. And I’m so glad you're here.
What’s on my heart this week: slowing down.
I’ve been catching myself speeding up — when honestly, life might be asking me to do the opposite. When we honor our own rhythm and allow ourselves to speed up or slow down based on how we feel, we move more intentionally. We live more intentionally.
Lately, I’ve been exploring local yoga classes around Austin (outside of my own, lol) — and it’s been nourishing, eye-opening, and a little saddening too. Here’s what’s been on my mind:
1. Leading a class vs. teaching a class
Neither is right or wrong. Both serve a purpose.
But they’re different.
Leading is when the teacher calls out pose names while practicing on their mat. I love this sometimes — it’s fun, collaborative, and we get to move together.
Teaching is when the teacher isn’t practicing. They’re watching. They’re present with you. They speak to the room and demo only if needed. When someone is truly teaching — you feel it. You feel seen. There's intimacy, insight, and real connection. It's where magic occurs.
And still, leading has its place. It works. It can feel really good.
💭 What do you prefer to receive? Can you feel the difference?
2. Faster isn’t always better
Don’t get me wrong — I love a good, sweaty, heart-pumping class.
But if you wake up with a sore back, a crick in your neck, or strange aches… you might be moving faster than your body’s capacity to feel.
I love going slow. If you’ve practiced with me, you know this. Slow movement gives more space for breath, for sensation, for inner discovery. You meet yourself. Your nervous system gets to be regulated even while holding intensity.
Honestly, I think moving fast (or teaching fast) can be a way of avoiding discomfort or intimacy — with ourselves or the room.
Think about it… 10 breaths in Warrior II. Just you and your breath. Stillness. Presence. That level of intimacy with yourself is rare in today’s world, where everything is trying to pull you outward and keep you producing.
Slowing down is kind of rebellious now. And yeah — it might feel uncomfortable at first. Like my teacher Ana says, “breathe into your inner wilderness.” It might be mysterious, but it’s yours to explore.
💭 So… do you like to move fast or slow? What’s your edge?
3. Bringing your own mat vs. borrowing one
Okay this one’s funny but real. I’ve been doing a mix of both lately.
Studios do clean their mats, yes… but still, something about sharing a mat felt more intimate than drinking from someone’s straw 😂
I started wiping mine down before practice to soften the ick, lol. But bringing my own feels better. More personal.
So what about you — are you a mat-carrying queen/king? Or do you love traveling light and borrowing one?
This week’s reminder: explore.
Try my class or someone else’s.
Find your own rhythm.
Slow down enough to feel yourself.
And be brave enough listen internally.
See you next week here.
Much love,
Kam 🤍
