Embracing Femininity: Redefining Womanhood

Do you feel empowered as a woman? Men, how do you experience women?

Dearest Community,

What’s been on my mind this week is: womanhood.

Truthfully, it’s often on my mind—it’s one of the foundational pillars of my work.

As a young woman, I found myself bewildered by what it meant to be a woman.

I was in a woman’s body, yet felt fearful, anxious, small, and girl-like.

It didn’t fully come into my awareness until a pivotal moment in my first Forrest Yoga Teacher Training. We were reviewing a video of me teaching (in front of the whole group—terrifying enough on its own, lol). The video would pause periodically for feedback—reflections on where I needed to grow.

At one point, Ana Forrest looked directly into my eyes and said,
“You have absolutely no idea who you are.”

And I broke.
Everything crumbled: the confusion, the ache, the grief of never having had the chance to learn what it meant to be a woman. I was stepping into womanhood, and I had no idea what that path looked like.

She reassured me, reminding me this wasn’t something to be ashamed of.
This wasn’t a failing—this was the invitation.
“You get to dive into the mystery,” she said.
“This is your work: find out who the woman is.”

And so… here we are.
Almost 8 years later.

After years of untangling from harmful teachings about womanhood, I’ve come home to who I truly am as a woman. Who I choose to be.

It’s an ongoing journey—a sacred, worthy one.

I am a sweet woman.
An honest woman.
A powerful woman.
A take-no-shit woman.
A fierce woman.
A passionate woman.
An untamed woman.
An inspiring sensual woman.

Being a woman means something different to every woman. Each of us must go inward to unhook from the beliefs others have put on us—and uncover what’s truly there for us.

My greatest teacher on this journey has been the Earth.

She has taught me to honor my inner thunderstorms as sacred and powerful.
To receive like the plants do—freely and fully.
To be wild. To take up space. To be unowned. To be mine.

She reminds me to love and care for all beings with tenderness and devotion.
To let my emotional weather systems be sacred.
To be full, radiant, powerful.
To be exactly as I am.

Forrest Yoga continues to teach me how to embody my womanhood.
It strengthens my sensitivity and cultivates deep stability in my connection to Spirit and to the Earth.

So I ask you:
What does being a woman mean to you?

And if you are a man reading this, I ask:
What is your true take on women—beyond the makeup, the dress-up, the dinner on the table?
(Yes, those can be beautiful expressions of womanhood—but in my opinion, they are absolutely not the essence.)

To me, being a woman means having the capacity to hold and embrace all of life.
It’s about standing in our power as Spirit-filled beings, hearts open and strong through every experience.
It’s about embodying the wisdom of life’s cycles—of birth and death, creation and destruction—as our bodies show us every month.

This is why I began leading women’s circles and holding space for women’s work. Because we need sisterhood to truly shine. When we are seen and supported by powerful women, we are empowered to rise.

When one of us rises, we all have the opportunity to rise.

Let’s go on this journey together.

From my heart to yours,
Kam

Forrest Yoga can also be a beautiful ally in this journey—join a group class or book a 1:1 with me. I’d be honored to support you.

I am hosting two classes this week at a new space. You’re invited. It’s donation-based.
