Cycle Syncing Myth
Don't use your cycle syncing skills as an excuse to not show up.
I was talking with a colleague of mine about yoga, cycle syncing, and female hormones.
It was a thought provoking, challenging, and SO inspiring conversation. Honestly, one of my favorite experiences is having a calm and interesting conversation with someone where we have seemingly differing opinions, yet are still very interested and curious about the other person’s perspective.
As a loved one said to me once,
“If you are unwilling to hear another person’s truth about something and are dead set on your own being the ultimate truth… how do you truly know it’s your truth?”
In other words, if you cannot question and be curious about your own beliefs, how do you know they’re solid and true for you?
Anyway, back to cycle syncing.
Let me make it crystal clear for you. There’s a lot of talk around this and I want you to be clear.
Cycle syncing is not intended to be used as another excuse to not show up for yourself.
To me, cycle syncing is about deepening into embodiment as a woman and getting back in tune with the truth of being cyclical. It’s allowing myself to self-regulate when I am pre-bleed so I do not burn out.
What it is NOT:
An excuse to eat like crap and not take care of yourself
An excuse to not show up for yourself on emotionally challenging days
An excuse to drop your consistency with your physical, career, or relationship goals
A limitation
A reason to normalize feeling like shit and doing nothing about it
As I talked with my friend, it opened my mind to how confusing this can be.
“Well, I’m in my luteal phase… so I should just nap and eat like shit, right? Because… cycle syncing?”
Bottom line: NO.
Cycle syncing IS:
A tool to give yourself, as a woman, more permission to self-regulate
A validation that no, you will NOT show up the same week after week
A reminder to listen to your body as it relates to your goals and responsibilities
A way to embrace different aspects of your personality and gifts throughout the month
A system that helps you release shame and romance your menstrual + fertility cycle instead
A place to discover more about yourself as a woman
A system that invites you to reject GO GO GO- hustle mentality and arrive in more softness
So yes queen, when you are luteal—please do give yourself permission to nap.
AND use discernment to decide if that’s actually you preventing yourself from showing up.
The truth is, as a society we’ve forgotten how to listen to our bodies. Especially as women.
The result?
Disease.
Depression.
Hormonal imbalance.
Physical pain.
Abuse.
Infertility.
A lack of joy and pleasure in life.
Lack of fulfillment.
Cycle syncing is a way to begin listening and trusting your rhythms as a woman—
while using discernment to know what’s truly good for you. This is how nature works too, there’s cycles and seasons….yet everything is accomplished.
Example:
❌ What cycle syncing is NOT:
You’re bloated, exhausted, and mid-luteal phase. Instead of the workout and healthy meal you planned, you stay in bed, order pizza, and binge TV.
Result: You feel like shit the next day and have a more challenging bleed because of the lack of nourishment.
✅ What cycle syncing IS:
You’re bloated and tired, you realize you’re in your luteal phase. To take care of yourself, you opt for a lower-impact strength workout, make some peppermint tea, and massage your feet afterward to support the puffy/bloaty feeling.
Result: You feel rejuvenated, refreshed the next day, and grounded in your body.
Notice the difference?
We’re all human, and we get to do human things (like eat pizza and binge TV) from time to time.
But the distinction I want you to get is that cycle syncing doesn’t mean normalizing not showing up for yourself.
It means adjusting the intensity based on where you are intuitively—and showing up consistently to care for your body + your life + your goals.
(in a way that honors where you are)
That’s what creates balanced hormones and easier bleeding (less cramps, less fatigue, more flow).
So what are the “outs” you give yourself to not show up?
Get curious about that and let me know what you find out! These excuses can be sneaky..
No shame babes, just awareness and curiosity.
